Brigidine Roisin Waters was born in March 1996 to Sinead and John Waters, an Irish Times columnist, and writer. Her parents had been separated since before she was born, but John frequently visited Roisin in her mother's home where she lived. According to John, Roisin was "the best thing to have happened" to him.
In 1999, John accused Sinead of neglecting their young daughter and filed an official complaint to investigate the case. However, the singer vehemently denied his claim.
The accusation was, at that time, the latest among a string of arguments. Sinead and John had been in a custody battle for Roisin since her birth. In 2014, Sinead surrendered Roisin to her father's custody after attempting to take her own life.

In 2014, she joined Sinead on the main stage of the Electric Picnic festival to perform "Take Me to Church" and "The Wolf is Getting Married."
In the same year, 17-year-old Roisin appeared on an Icelandic television show with her mother and John Grant. Grant sang the hit song "Greatest Mother [expletive]" with the mother and daughter surprising guests as backing vocalists.
While Roisin is following in her mother's footsteps, she may also have a career as a writer. Roisin previously wrote an article for the Independent, making her columnist dad proud. John worked for the Irish Times from 1991 to 2014.
